Colour Themes
A theme repaints the whole game in a different set of colours. There are 10 of them, and they change the look only: never your stats, your gold, your fights or anything else about how the game plays.
The three kinds of theme
- The starter theme: Shadowrealm is the classic look (the classic look: black, bone and old gold). Every character owns it from the start.
- Event themes: 6 themes tied to a holiday. They switch on by themselves while the holiday is on.
- Gem shop themes: 3 themes you buy once with shadowgems.
Event themes
Every event theme is unlocked for every player from the start. During its holiday it switches on automatically, and you can equip any of them all year round. Holiday windows run on UTC time. If two windows overlap, Lantern Night wins.

Gem shop themes
These are bought once with shadowgems and are then yours for good. See Shadowgems for how to earn gems by playing.

Where to manage themes
- Settings, Appearance: shows all your themes, lets you Equip any theme you own, and holds the Event themes switch.
- Gem Shop, Themes section: where the gem shop themes are bought.
Motion effects
Some themes add gentle animated touches, such as drifting sparks or swaying lanterns. They are plain CSS animations. A Motion effects switch in Settings turns them on or off. For devices set to reduce motion they are switched off automatically, unless you turn the switch on yourself.
Questions
- Do I need to unlock the holiday themes? No. They are free and unlocked for everyone. Only the gem shop themes need a purchase, and a bought theme is yours to keep.
- Can I turn off holiday themes? Yes. Switch off Event themes in Settings, under Appearance, and the game keeps the theme you equipped.
- Do themes change my stats? No. They are colours only.
- Why is some gold still gold? Some artwork keeps its own colours, and status colours such as health and energy stay the same on purpose, so a bar always reads the same whatever theme you wear.
